Laying New Flooring Over Tiles
You don't always need to rip up your old tiles. Our preparation-over-tiles service lets us lay beautiful new flooring directly on top — saving you time, money and the mess of a full demolition.

Common Questions
Questions We Get Asked
Can you lay Hybrid flooring over tiles?
Yes — in certain cases hybrid flooring can go directly over your existing tiles. However, in some cases we do need to carry out preparation such as applying self-levelling compound to fill grout lines and create a flat, stable base before installation.
Can you lay Vinyl Plank over tiles?
No — vinyl plank cannot go directly over tiles. Self-levelling compound must be applied first to create a smooth, flat surface. Without this preparation, the grout lines can telegraph through the planks, leaving the floor looking uneven and unflat.
Why does preparation matter?
Poor preparation is the number one cause of flooring failures — including lifting, cracking, uneven wear, and a floor that could also look uneven. A properly prepared subfloor ensures your new floor looks great and lasts for decades.
How flat does my floor need to be?
Industry standard is no more than 3 mm variation over a 1.8 m span. We assess your floor and use self-levelling compound to bring it within tolerance before any new flooring goes down.
Does my new home need floor preparation?
Often yes. Even brand-new concrete slabs can have high spots, dips, or surface contamination. We always assess before installation — never assume a new slab is ready to go.
Can you lay Laminate over tiles?
In certain cases laminate can go directly over your tiles. However, in some cases self-levelling compound is needed first to bring the surface within the flat tolerance laminate requires for a long-lasting result.
Our Process
Tile Assessment
We inspect the existing tiles for loose, cracked or hollow sections. Any compromised tiles are secured or replaced before we proceed — a solid base is non-negotiable.
Surface Priming
The tile surface is thoroughly cleaned and a bonding primer is applied. This ensures the self-levelling compound adheres correctly and won't delaminate over time.
Self-Levelling Compound
We pour and spread a high-quality self-levelling compound over the primed tiles, filling grout lines and creating a smooth, flat surface ready for your new floor.
New Floor Installation
Once the compound has cured, your chosen flooring — timber, vinyl plank, hybrid or laminate — is installed directly on top for a flawless, long-lasting result.

We used Keith from Exquisite Flooring for our luxury vinyl plank install, and his attention to detail was exceptional. The ramp transitions between our vinyl planks and tiles (which are different heights) were done so seamlessly you barely notice them, yet they make such a difference to how the space looks and feels. It's the kind of detail that's easy to overlook, but when it's done right, it elevates the entire finish. Everything flows perfectly, feels cohesive underfoot, and looks incredibly polished. The overall installation quality was outstanding, and it's clear a lot of care and precision went into every part of the job.
