Hybrid Flooring Perth & Joondalup
Perth & Joondalup's hybrid flooring specialists — rigid core, fully waterproof, and built for Australian conditions. Supply and installation by Exquisite Flooring.
What Is Hybrid Flooring?
Hybrid flooring combines the best features of laminate and vinyl plank into a single product. Its stone-plastic composite (SPC) or wood-plastic composite (WPC) core gives it exceptional rigidity and dimensional stability, while the waterproof construction makes it suitable for all areas of the home.
One of hybrid's key advantages is its tolerance for subfloor imperfections. In certain cases it can go directly over existing tiles — though we always assess the surface first and will apply self-levelling compound where needed to ensure a perfect result.
Hybrid flooring is particularly well suited to Perth's climate, where temperature swings can cause lesser products to expand, contract and gap over time. Whether you're in Joondalup, the northern suburbs or anywhere across the Perth metro, we supply and install hybrid flooring with a level of care that's earned us industry awards.

Why Choose Hybrid Flooring?
Best of Both Worlds
Hybrid combines the rigid core stability of laminate with the waterproof properties of vinyl — giving you a floor that handles Australian conditions better than either product alone.
Temperature Stable
Hybrid's rigid core is highly resistant to expansion and contraction caused by Perth's temperature fluctuations, making it ideal for homes without climate control.
May Go Over Tiles
In certain cases hybrid flooring can go directly over existing tiles. However, in some cases self-levelling compound is still required — we assess every job individually.
Fully Waterproof
The waterproof core means hybrid is safe in kitchens, laundries and bathrooms. Spills and moisture won't damage the floor when properly installed.
Quiet & Comfortable
Hybrid floors typically include an attached acoustic underlay, reducing impact noise and providing a warm, comfortable feel underfoot.
Stunning Visuals
Available in a wide range of realistic timber and stone looks, hybrid flooring delivers high-end aesthetics at a mid-range price point.
Our Installation Process
- 1Subfloor inspection and flatness assessment — we check tile bond, grout depth and overall flatness
- 2Self-levelling compound applied where required to bring the surface within tolerance
- 3Moisture testing and barrier installation if slab moisture readings are elevated
- 4Underlay selection — most hybrid products include attached underlay; additional underlay added where needed

- 6Skirting boards, trims and transitions finished to a high standard
Common Questions
Can hybrid flooring go over tiles?
In certain cases yes — hybrid can go directly over your existing tiles. However, in some cases we still need to apply self-levelling compound to ensure the surface is flat enough. We assess every job individually before recommending an approach. The key factor is whether the tiles are firmly bonded, grout lines are not too deep, and the overall surface is within the flatness tolerance required.
Is hybrid flooring suitable for Perth's climate?
Yes — hybrid is one of the best choices for Perth homes. Its rigid stone-composite core is highly stable in temperature fluctuations, and its waterproof construction handles our humid summers well. Unlike solid timber, hybrid won't cup or gap with seasonal changes.
What is the difference between hybrid and vinyl plank?
Hybrid has a rigid stone-composite (SPC) core, making it more dimensionally stable and better suited to temperature changes. Vinyl plank has a more flexible core and is generally softer underfoot, but requires more stringent subfloor preparation — particularly self-levelling compound over tiles. Hybrid is generally our recommendation for Perth homes.
How thick should hybrid flooring be?
We recommend a minimum of 6mm for residential use. Most quality hybrid products range from 6mm to 8mm, with thicker boards offering better sound insulation and a more solid feel. The wear layer should be at least 0.3mm for residential use.
Do you install hybrid flooring in Joondalup and the northern suburbs?
Yes — we service all of Perth including Joondalup, Wanneroo, Kingsley, Duncraig, Hillarys, Currambine, Ocean Reef, Edgewater and surrounding northern suburbs. We also cover the southern suburbs and eastern corridor.
How much does hybrid flooring installation cost in Perth?
Hybrid flooring installation in Perth typically ranges from $45–$75 per square metre for supply and install, depending on the product selected, subfloor condition and job complexity. We provide detailed, itemised quotes with no hidden charges.
Does hybrid flooring need underlay?
Most quality hybrid flooring products come with an attached acoustic underlay pre-bonded to the back of the plank. This provides cushioning, sound reduction and a small amount of thermal insulation. In most cases no additional underlay is required, though we may recommend a thin foam underlay on concrete slabs in certain situations.
